Asked of Joanne Chang, baker, pastry chef, and owner of Flour Bakery & Cafe
Would you rather date a butcher or a candlestick maker?
[JC]: A butcher. Anybody who works with food. Don't they say that food and sex are next to each other in your brain? If you're passionate about one, you're probably passionate about the other.

I'd be more concerned about the side of beef to which he has an unnatural attachment.

Not as dirty as talking about a meat plow.

The meat plow only comes to be once generous amounts of sake are consumed.

It's like, "banzaii!!!1" But, "Meatplow!!!1"

Thanks. Really, though, my life as a bureaucrat makes me seek out things of interest to share. It's part of my "Don't go crazy" strategy.

And I realized that I didn't credit the quotation. It's one of the questions asked by Jonathan Soroff in an interview printed in a recent The Improper Bostonian. I don't usually read IB, but as I've a fascination with chefs, "The Dining Issue" did catch my eye.

It would have been much cooler if I had asked that question of her. ^_^
