Visual discord - A little less than a happy high

I've been tinkering with night shots a little and with the manual settings on the Canon. Though I can't say as I've been entirely happy with the results, I have been having fun with it and have come up with some interesting (if somewhat flawed) images. Here are a couple from last night with elements I thought might be worth exploring further. As usual, I'd love to hear what you think.

^_^

I need to tweak a little bit to get the images a touch crisper. The camera seems a little dodgy in low-light.

I really like the starburst effect in "Twenty-Three." I also really like the building, if only for being one of the few deco structures in the immediate area.

*LOVE* the first one. My brain keeps having issues wrapping around the second, which is kinda cool....

I've some issues with the second, but I really liked how the light was just swallowed up by the door alcove. I'm thinking that I'll get back down there to see if I can't get a better shot from it.

Theyre both quite dramatic, I'll have to agree with everyone else about the first one, that is a gem!

Thanks so much. It seems like some of my best pieces come from moments of "huh" that happen when I'm out doing something else. This was no exception.

I really like these, both for the quality of the light (which seems inorganic but entirely natural to the settings) and the framing.

Remember the Police video that was filmed entirely by candle light? I continue to be fascinated by it conceptually. It's not a direct parallel, to be sure, but there's something about playing with the little light that's available in favor of flooding an area with an artificial flash that seems terribly appealing.
