Answer #1: Personally, I've never been to Oregon so I wouldn't know.

Answer #2: WHO?

Response the first: Portland, Maine, actually. I passed through last night and it had a positively boom-town feel to it.

Response the second: The Frumious Bandersnatch. I'm satisfied with the choice, but I missed the episode due to moving shenanigans.

Good question. I had a similar surprise this past week. I heard stories from two different people about amazing restaurants and such, and I though, Portland?! Really?

Me mum says that 'boomtown' might not be a bad descriptor. She even talked a bit about the problems that have come with the speedy growth over the past few years like "drinking in the street," "fights" and "stabbings." Add some foul language and a couple of cathouses, and it'd look like a little like Deadwood.

my sources say Portland Maine has been cool for about 5 years.

That kind of snuck up on me.

Portland has become very cool in recent years. Did you stop in at Duck Fat? It's totally worth the drive just for a lunch!

When I was growing up, it had a kind of gritty coolness that I very much appreciated. This was something entirely different. It's almost got a "place to be" vibe going for it now.

I haven't been to Duck Fat. I assume it's that good?

The menu. They serve the most delicious Belgian fries (fried in 10% duckfat) with your choice of dipping sauce (truffle ketchup, curry mayo, DUCK GRAVY, garlic aioli, to name a few). I also recommend the pressed sandwiches and milkshakes. Drool.
