Barring any unforeseen expenses, like a new pair of glasses (April)… - A little less than a happy high

Barring any unforeseen expenses, like a new pair of glasses (April) or a tune for the VW (likely May), I'm at least five or six months from getting the SLR rig I've got my heart set on. The good news is that I'm likely to have it when I head to Arizona in November. The bad news is that if I go this route, I could be without a camera until I head to Arizona in November. Since I'm not relishing going through the summer and fall with nothing better than a VGA cam-phone, I've been tossing around the possibility of dropping $150 on a new-to-me Canon G3 or G5. It would be a temporary measure that would allow me to keep using the accessories I already own, and once I scored the 30d I could re-eBay or come up with an elaborate reason why I should keep it.

I'm also thinking that I should get my hands in some clay again. I've access to MassArt through some crazy tuition reimbursement scheme, and it's really time I started taking advantage of that instead of doing the "so not cool enough" dance. I can't say I've got the drive/talent/vision to go pro, but that hardly matters. Throwing puts my head in a good place. I'm not sure I need a better excuse than that.

Snazzy rig for sure, I'll be jealous.

Picking up a used prosumer is a pretty good plan, you can resell it for most of (if not more than) what you paid for it if you pounce on a good deal. You could also resell it just before getting the SLR so you'd have the cash on hand once you saved up the rest of what you need, win-win situation.

That's kind of what I was thinking. The six month plan will require a certain degree of sacrifice, but since that will largely be in the form of things we discussed Monday, it could be a good thing. It'd be nice if I could take some time to wander in the desert when I head west.

yes! take advantage of the massart thing. even though you'll feel uncool in the hallways if you ever ever see another human being there. once you start playing with clay, i imagine that all fades away (and a rhyme!).

I know folks who are either there or who have gone through their program, and they've told me again and again I've nothing to worry about. I'm just making excuses, really.

i worked in the fibers studio there for a year and felt a lot of that sort of worry. and it always felt deserted and sad there to me. but doing the creative stuff you want to do is enough to overcome it.

My favorite times at the BCAE studio were when no one else was there. Gave me plenty of opportunity to play, get a look at what I was doing and not worry about being in someone else's way.

Yes, get a standby camera. Lower quality photos are better than none.

Go and throw. It'll make you happy.

I think both will.

BTW, when are we getting together to tinker?

That is an excellent question. This weekend is stuffed, and next looks to be pretty tough for you, so perhaps the one after that? Maybe a weeknight?

Weeknights are wide open. I'm not sure, but I may be in CT 3 weekends hence.

That is the BEST reason to do anything.

You are very wise.

Oh, pssst...

Hee! RAWR, baby! Yep, glasses get me everytime. Nice ones, too. Is it safe to assume those are the ones you wear now? (And did you remove the signature from your face?)

Can you believe I'm still on the "trying on" photo?

Yeah, these are the same ones I'm wearing, and the signature is gone.

You, much like I, don't have enough confidence in yourself.

Knock it the fuck off, and I'll try to do the same. :)

Get a temp camera. Get your hands dirty.

MAKE stuff. :)

You're much better at saying "fuck all" and making it happen, but you're right... it needs to stop.

It's a deal.

I'm still thinking on beer. Right now, I'm leaning towards a bitters that can be done in less than a month and a biere de garde, perhaps using sprouted maize for a portion of the sugars for each. I'll have work-ups by the weekend.

Schweeeeeeeeeeeeet!

And having sprouted maize in there is sort of cool since they referred to the child as "sprout" pre hatching.

Technically, any malt we use is from sprouted barley, but I thought it'd be cool to incorporate the actual process into the making.

Re: Yahooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Nah, the cider's still working. I've hit it with yeast twice, and I've been thinking that I may have to do something crazy like adding yeast nutrient.
