Thought Exercise
If Jim Jarmusch were to make Alice In Wonderland, casting Iggy Pop in drag as Alice and Johnny Depp as the Dormouse and setting the whole to a Tom Waits soundtrack:
  • Who else would be cast as what? and
  • What are other elements that absolutely must go into this project?

The post is locked! This makes me very sad.

Queen Latifah as the Queen of Hearts.

Bummer. I hadn't noticed the friendslock. It started with wanderyng1's complaint that with Tim Burton slated to direct the next adaptation, we could probably expect either Depp or Helena Bonham Carter to be cast as Alice.

You know, I think that would work pretty well. We need to find a good White Rabbit.

Vincent Donofrio as the White Rabbit
Steve Buscemi as the Hatter

Could Donofrio pull off the hurried hare routine?

Buscemi as the Hatter is pretty solid.

Donofrio is terrifying when he's frenetic. Put that dude in a dingy bunny suit and you have nightmare fuel for years.

Buscemi did the Hatter on an old SNL. I still smile.

Not being able to read the post either, I'll still say that James St. James would make a great hookah smoking caterpillar.

Still? You've said as much before?

Still - I'll say it even though I don't really know shit about what I'm talking about. :)

Awesome. I admire that kind of pluck.

Rowan Atkinson as The Queen of Hearts.

Ooooh, that's precious.
Though, I kind of see him more as the King - bumbling around - being very Mr. Bean about the whole thing.

I see him in more the Elizabethan Black Adder role. I think he's been far too pigeonholed by Mr. Bean which was truly not his best work.

But put him in a dress and give him Baldrick as the king and really, it would be rather priceless.

I tend to friend-lock my posts out of habit (and to avoid the drama llama).

That's fair. I was just trying to give due credit is all.

Bill Murray as the Mock Turtle. The Queen of Hearts should be Cate Blanchett, as Bob Dylan.
komos From: komos Date: December 12th, 2007 03:15 pm (UTC) (Link)
Murray's a perfect Mock Turtle, and though this incarnation of Blanchett would hurt my head a little, the idea fits with the production I'm envisioning.

I kind of want Steve Coogan for the March Hare. I've still no ideas on the Cheshire Cat or Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.
beatnikside From: beatnikside Date: December 12th, 2007 05:42 pm (UTC) (Link)
Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee should be Roberto Benigni and Sasha Baron Cohen. Or GZA and RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan. Or Jack and Meg from the White Stripes.

And even though it's not Carroll, Gary Farmer should show up at some point, glare at the White Rabbit, and say, "You stupid fucking white rabbit."

Jarmusch should have the freedom to take some artistic license....

Caterpillar = A Bill & Ted era Keanu Reeves OR Courtney Love
komos From: komos Date: December 12th, 2007 03:21 pm (UTC) (Link)
I kind of want Gary Farmer in that role.

I loved him in Dead Man.

You want the wise Indian thing for that role, don't you?
komos From: komos Date: December 12th, 2007 03:40 pm (UTC) (Link)
No, I want the straight man who can work absurdity for that role.
