Iron Chef: Planning
I had hoped to do the next Iron Chef sometime in February, but the weekends seem to have become frightfully filled. Since the March slate is still relatively blank, I thought I'd post to see what kind of interest we might have.

Additionally, if you know anyone else who might be interested, please pass a link along. Per usual, if we are wanting participants the event will revert to HKAB.

ETA: Current rules set is here. I'd also like to add a reminder that though there are some few rare exceptions, everyone participating as judges, chefs, or spectators are hobbyists. This isn't to say that we aren't capable of some amazing concoctions, but the idea behind this is to get together to have fun.

that last weekend is HONK! West in Seattle, which we still have pipe dreams of attending.

There's stuff peppered all through, including a couple of derby bouts that I'm sure I won't miss. I'll keep it all in mind as I try to fix the schedule.

Are you sure this shouldn't be Iron Chef Cookie Battle?

It's always cookie battle. That can be proven with SCIENCE.

march is a totally different page on the calendar. that's far!

i imagine mike would like to (finally) judge. that said, i'm sure this will once again fall on some mythical day we can't be here for.

ps: i like cookies.

Is it possible to imagine a sphere with an infinite diameter? What if that sphere were filled with cookie dough?

If Mike wants a judge slot, it's his. I will fully expect his unique perspective to radically influence the judging in the direction of awesome.

I voted for judging because I've competed twice & spectated once, and I'd like to see the show from another viewpoint, plus your crowd makes some damn fine food & I'm no longer a picky eater.
That said, I offer my judging services with the usual caveat that I won't judge if Ry is cooking. If he is competing, I'll just bring more oddball truffles or something. =)

I would love to give you the seat, but it will depend entirely upon what kind of response I get from prospective chefs. As it stands, I need to weight according to Ry's request to cook. If we get a slew of requests, that may well change.

sounds fun

I'd love to judge or to compete if it ends up being a date I can make. My only worry is that if I compete, I will come in a distant, distant last as I don't think my culinary skills are nearly as developed as yours and those of some of the guests I met at your bday/Viva's house warming party.

Re: sounds fun

Keep in mind that it's only nominally a competition. While it's true that there will be a handful of people creating a themed tasting menu for another lot, the whole exercise is mostly an excuse to get together and enjoy good food. The big prizes are a) preference of a judge's seat when you want it, which is given to everyone who cooks, and b) getting bugged about defending your "title" if you place first.

you didn't have "photograph" as one of the "If I attend..." so I'll add that for myself!
:)

Forgive the oversight. Needless to say, that would be awesome.
