And this is why I self censor - A little less than a happy high

And this is why I self censor
The next time anyone feels a strong urge to talk about the huge variety of quality music available today in comparison to that of previous decades, I'd like you all to remember that we only just recovered from a wave of bands who wish they were Queen, only to have them be replaced with bands who wish they were Death Cab for Cutie. Consider Owl City...

'Cause I get a thousand hugs,
From ten thousand lightning bugs.
As they try to teach me how to dance,
A foxtrot above my head,
A sockhop beneath my bed.
The disco ball is just hanging by a thread (thread, thread)

Aw, hugs from bugs. Yeah, we're reaching new heights every day. :|

I'm told that if you shake your fist at them long enough, those kids might finally get off your damn lawn...

I'm pretty sure you need a stick for proper effect.

It's just one dude and his twee music for teen girls, so I suppose you can get fluffy hugs from him, too.

I don't think it's fair to use a shitty emo band as an exemplar of all new music. That's like judging a pharmacy based solely on how many different "flavors" of Tucks Medicated Anus Pads they offer.

Given that we just had a major station shutter its doors citing (in part) the lack of any interesting new material in their genre since the mid-90s, I'm not sure it's that much of a stretch.

You're right, though, and I'm the first to concede that there's some fantastic work being done by our contemporaries. Thing is, we've as much pointless and shit-tastic media being produced as any given decade, and enough of it that the "concentration of great music keeping artists down" argument falls a little limp.
