Bendy People!
Cirque du Soleil is coming back to town...

Bonjour Peter, We are very happy to announce that VAREKAI, our latest touring production, is headed to Boston! Get ready to experience a world where everything is possible. Deep within a forest, the story of a young man lost in an enchanted world will unfold...

The schedule for Boston is not yet up, but I'm guessing that it will be in late July or early August. I'm planning on getting tickets, so if you're interested in coming with, drop me a line so I can jump on them when advance sales begin.

Sure. I'll keep you in mind.

I feel guilty when I watch that stuff on Bravo. It's got erotic component to it that makes me feel just a little guilty. Just a little.

Bah, the only thing better than bendy people is naked bendy people, which is apparently what Cirque's doing with Zumanity.

Revel in the eroticism. It's part of the act.

I end up feeling guilty for being so horribly out of shape. Want to be that strong and balanced.

That's what I end up feeling. Got to see Cirque (that same show actually) last summer and walked away horribly guilty about the horribly out of shape and started stretching every day. Then I stopped. Damn.

I wanna see 'em but I don't know where I'll be next summer. =)

Kudos for actually getting motivated, at least. ^_^

You could just try to catch the tour at one of their stops.

Oh, the Zumanity!

oh, dear. I don't know if I can handle it. There was one of the "hanging rope" acts that was done with a giant net - which is well-seared in my mind for good.

when i was a kid, i did gymnastics and i loved to be on the rings. i've got that short, dense gymnast frame that I sometimes wonder if something could have been made of it. but now I can barely touch my toes.

yes, want to be that strong and balanced.

Re: Oh, the Zumanity!

I leave their shows incredibly wired. It's the 'suspension in silk' pieces that utterly break me.

I never got strong enough to do rings. :\

suspension in silk is NOT what we need right now.

yeah. that one, too.

Re: suspension in silk is NOT what we need right now.

Tell me about it.

No, really. Tell me about it. ;)

that iguana makes me LAUGH!

damn him and his little hat!

You should see him do the hat dance...

As soon as I saw him I decided he would have to be an icon.

Ooh! Let me know when you hear anything more definite.

Ok. This was just the preliminary notice. I should be getting a post about advance sales relatively soon.

yes, i'd also like more info as it comes. i saw quidam in dallas several years ago and would be interested to see another show.
komos From: komos Date: November 26th, 2003 08:32 am (UTC) (Link)
Quidam is easily my favorite so far. Granted, I've seen all of three (Quidam, Dralion, and Saltimbanco), but you get the idea. There was something about the depiction of the darker aspects of a child's mind that I found very compelling.

I agree. ^_^

Speaking of... if the impending January visit happens, I would be curious to meet you, assuming that you're not entirely booked with folks who have been kicking around much longer than I have.
From: angelajenessa Date: November 26th, 2003 09:51 am (UTC) (Link)
If I do make it to Boston (it would be late January or early Feb.) a meeting would be wonderful. I think there are only two or three people in Boston I would feel compelled to meet up with. tapeinhead and easytempo - possibly one or two others. I don't know Boston well and do not really have anyone I know well enough to stay with (I have a good friend I stay with in Manhattan when I visit there) so it may be a short visit since I do not have much money for hotel rooms. But we will see -- as the time gets closer something could always present itself. How far is Medford from Boston? Do you travel to Boston often?
komos From: komos Date: November 26th, 2003 10:19 am (UTC) (Link)
Medford is pretty close to Boston... maybe 10-15 minutes by car or a short T ride otherwise. I work downtown, so I'm actually here most of the week. Meeting you somewhere would be quite easy.

Let me know as things start to take shape and don't be feel free to tap me for information and the like.

Thanks, I will.

Once you know the date, let me know. I got here just after it left. :< So... I may have to make a roadtrip.

There are three stops in California as well, but I think they're all on the other end of the state. I'll keep you posted.

As I'm sure you expected my reply to be: Count me in!

There is the small matter of timing for you, but I will let you know and you can decide if the schedule works at all.
