Prepare yourselves, for I am to confess my ignorance
I have webspace through my ISP that I've never used because I am, at heart, something of a Luddite. I have a basic knowledge of HTML, but can't for the life of me figure out how to use FTP or what's necessary to create directories within my space.

Initially, I'm just looking to host some images, but I'd like to develop a proper site as time permits. Could one or more of you point me in the right direction?

Klae, I know you've made some suggestions, but I managed to misplace your post. :\

Most providers like Comcast or RCN give you free space.

I have the space, but am currently too dumb to use it.

using an FTP is not difficult at all.

What's the name of the space they give you.
There several ways to upload. I use (what's for me the easiest), ftp.thenameofthesite.com then there is a login and password.

Then it will look just like it does when you are in a folder on a computer, but you are really connected to the FTP. :) Then you just drag and drop. Easy as pie.

Can you create folders using the drag and drop program?

do you have AIM? I can walk you through it.

You just open up the internet, and put in the address bar :
ftp.[insert name of the space here].com

-it will usually ask for login and password. Enter them.

-once in, all you have to do is drag the file/folder you want to upload to the ftp site to the open window. It will upload it. (just like when you are moving folders within your computer)

I'm not sure if because it is given to you free from your ISP if they have a special site you go through.

I think I got it. I downloaded SmartFTP and I think I managed to do what I needed to. Thanks for the pointer. I'll be giving it a test run soon.

yeah, using a program can make it easier for some people. :)

The documentation my ISP provided indicated that an FTP program would be required, and from there I tinkered until I figured out how to set up the folder. Your guidance was appreciated. Sometimes dumb just means "haven't read far enough ahead yet."

I do have AIM, but it is verboten. We have technazis here. ;)

I think I'm good. Right now, I mostly just need to get of my arse and do something. I muddled through the biggest problem I had when A suggested I treat it like I was browsing my desktop with Explorer.

I was just trying to make it more complicated than it was.
