One jar to rule them all

My second sake jar. It still needs glazing and its final firing, but it will give you an idea of where I am.

That's a mighty fine jar.

Thanks. Now if I could only get enough control to make a bunch of cups of roughly the same shape and size. I've thrown a small army of them, but they're all a little different.

Perhaps together, you could be featured in a Ghost in a jar auction?

Want a set? I'll add it to my list of projects.

That is an awesome jar! Go you with your Mad Jar Skillz!

Incidentally, I think it's yours. My one concern is the relatively short neck. I'll be giving it a test run once it's fired to be sure that it can pour without dribbling.

I think this may be the first work of yours I've seen - damn fine.

It probably is... I haven't posted any other pics as yet. Thanks. It was a vast improvement over the first (it's lighter and has a better shape with more uniform walls), and it was a lot of fun to craft.

OOOh, I'm impressed with your jar-making prowess.

I think it's okay to be a "technician" for a while - you have to have the basics so internalized that you don't have to think before you can go wild, sometimes.

I'm positively amazed with some of the stuff folks are doing at the studio, both in terms of shape and color. They've gotten to a point of calculated abandon that I aspire to.

I can't wait to get to the point where I'm throwing one of these every ten minutes...

It's purty.

Think the gunmetal/navy color scheme will work?

(So, I tried to edit myself and not say "It's... JAR-ring!" (for the oh-so-many puns, but obviously I failed.

Otherwise, that is one damn fine jar. I'd toast it with sake and with it long life (and some fecundity so that its siblings the cups come out well) but I work in a dry office.

Bravo, it's lovely.

I left meself wide open... ^_^

The sentiments are appreciated even without the toast. Thanks.

This can only get me into trouble

Does this mean that I should watch out for you slinking around in a loincloth?

Thank you.

That looks GREAT! How big is it really? The photo makes it look HUGE!
komos From: komos Date: December 11th, 2003 11:53 am (UTC) (Link)
It's of a size that fits comfortably in my hand, but big enough that I can feel its size when I'm holding it.

Ah, but fully half of them are mine. ;)

Thanks. There will be more before too long.
