Driveabout
I'll be taking a long drive tomorrow with no particular destination or agenda in mind. When I've done things like this in the past, I've ended up at antique shops, flea markets, wildlife parks, barbecue joints, abandoned houses, pubs... you get the idea. Pretty much what catches the eye becomes the order of the day.

The point is to get vaguely lost and then find my way back home.

I would very much like company, so please drop me a line if you're interested. I'm planning on bringing a camera and very little else. Maybe some cheese.

Re: jealousy?

No need... if we do find ourselves in the same place, this will have to be something we do.

It looks like it's going to be a beautiful day, too. ^_^

I wish I could join you; such a drive sounds like just what the doctor would order for me right now. It's odd, the only time I've taken that kind of drive since I got out here was when you came to visit. Somehow, I can't do them by myself, and my grad school-mates always beg off such things due to chronic busy-ness. Have a good drive. Post the pix here.

I seem to recall that we turned back because you thought we had gone far enough.

Incidentally, the secret to being comfortable enough to do it is to keep a good map in your car. If you ever do get hopelessly lost, it will bring you back.

Re:

Two points go along with yours: A. I'd never been the driver before for such a drive, and B. I didn't have a good map in the car.

I think I prefer being in the car as a passenger, I like watching the scenery change and not having to be in any way in charge aside from occasionally answering a question about whether I think we should go left or right.

I've done that sort of thing since high school both with and without maps. It just seems natural to wander.

"The point is to get vaguely lost and then find my way back home."
Yes ... just so ... vaguely "there and back again"-ish.

I would that I had the time and the means to do it properly. Undirected action is so very dear.

Yaa ... I was supposed to be out in the country for late winter and spring, but have ended up back in the city, in vastly reduced circumstances. I guess life itself is one big wander!

My new camera and I would love to come. :) But how early would I have to get up?
:)

It's 7:30 and I'm up now, but think it might be a little while before I hit the road. If you're still interested, give me a call.

Re:

Sadly, I was still up at 7:30, so I had to make a decision. ;) plus, I didn't have your #. Hope you had a good day, can't wait to see the results.

I sent my number to your lj address. Did it not get to you?

I'm sad to report that there probably won't be a whole lot that develops from the wander. It was less an exploration than just a drive, and while there were some neat things that we saw (c_m_i came with), it was mostly in passing.

I do have a couple of shots from Saturday, though.

Re:

Nope, didn't get the #. I also didn't get the evite last time. very strange. My mom used to take us on "penny rides" where we'd flip a coin at every intersection to decide which way to turn.
I'm pretty sure we're showing up this saturday afternoon and bringing something yummy! :)

Sunday? ^_^

Saturday, I'll probably be gathering materials and possibly trying to find a source for raw birch and/or maple sap.

I used to go for walks like that.

I got the wanderlust doing just that when I was growing up. I like covering territory for no reason. It just feels right.
