Sobering
At Saturday’s gather, I voiced an opinion about a local brewpub. One of the gents seated across from me said, "We should listen to this guy. He looks like someone who knows his beer." As if this weren’t bad enough, when I looked over at him, he started patting his belly. That’s just fantastic. I’ve become someone whose physique is representative of my (bad) habits. There’s some consolation in that he was one of the pair who was drunkenly hitting on V, but still...

I feel pretty hotless.

They were complete jerks. What they say does not matter.

They were an echo of the chorus in my head. That's why it mattered at all.

But sometimes, they sing pretty songs about killing spring and puppies.

For clarity's sake.

This was a man (possibly inebriated) who made a commented right after you expressed yourself.

You likely expressed yourself intelligently and comprehensively. Could not envy from this fellow produced his need to attack you? Clearly his wit is witless.

I'm not clear how this episode reflects on your 'being hot' or attractive/unattractive.

I doubt it was an attack... it just played into issues I've been struggling with for a while now. It's hard having the infernal voice externalized so clearly.

*nods

Its hard, but enables you to respond in a way that transforms it positively and for good.

It was an attack... from what I read in your reply, a self-attack.

Hence not looking at it as an attack...

And if being self-critical motivates me to action, I'll take it.

I heard him say this when you weren't there, when he was asking who I knew there. He was just projecting his own deep-seeded fears onto you, by the fact that he had to say this twice. Asshole.

Perhaps it was just a mnemonic device for him. I'm guessing that he had no real ill-intent. He was just oblivious to how his statements and actions might impact others.

It externalizes for more than you.

I resemble the Taco Buddha a little too closely, I fear.

Sorry you got jerk-bombed. I know you're unhappy with your current physique, but you are so much more than your outer shell. You're working on your inner self right now, your outer self will catch up. Besideswhich, I love your barrel-chestedness ;-)
komos From: komos Date: May 18th, 2004 12:12 pm (UTC) (Link)
Ah, but you know as well as I do that for me, my outer shell is reflective of my inner process. There's a lot I've got tied up in body. Too much.

the price we pay for our passion

that's okay. half of the time my teeth are stained black from having tasted so much red wine. when i smile during and after a tasting i must look like half of the population of north carolina. (my remedy is easier though, i've learned to not go anywhere without a toothbrush and paste.)

and Hott! is in the eye of the Hottie, anyway.

Re: the price we pay for our passion

For me, it's more like the price I've paid to subvert my passions.

Regardless, I've been intrigued by your journeys through wine. Possibly a somelier by fall? That's very, very cool.

As I always say, "fuck'em".

You are only as hot as you think you are. Hell, I know I'm not the hotness, but I still think I'm pretty damn hot. Screw the lagar lout and his shit talk. Be the cool you I know and the hotness shall radiate! If the masses don't catch on it's only because you're an Alpha living in a Delta world.
