Suddenly, I'm not feeling quite so asea
I got the official results from the BeerSummit Homebrew Competition in today's mail. Josh was good enough to include this note at the bottom of the cover:

You were 1 point away from taking 3rd and 2 points away from 2nd. This was a really tough category. Most beers won a 1st with only 27-30 points.

My old ale averaged 31 points from two judges who rated it.

Best, the judges provided hints as to what needs improvement. I could probably boost the score by two points just by cutting down on the carbonation. Balancing the hops more and experimenting with more raw grain should be enough to push me over the top.

I need to bug them about what they'd like to brew. Just about anything's possible...

Dinner would be good... I could bring pie.

Pie is always welcome. Nine out of every ten fabulous twenty-somethings recommend pie as the dessert of choice, and I'm all about choice.

And I'm all about pie. This sounds like the begining of a beautiful plan. *sniff*

can I try one? ^_^
komos From: komos Date: November 18th, 2004 05:59 am (UTC) (Link)
Absolutely. I need to set one bottle aside to have when I make the next old ale, but I think there are one or two additional beyond that.

Must. Brew. Soon.

I'd like you to try mine, see if you have suggestions.
And do you still want that video card from like a month ago?

Have you played with beertools.com yet? Between giving recipes to template from and running calculations that let me push the limits of the style, I've fallen in love with the site. I may even find it within myself to [*gasp*] pay for the extra features soon.

Trying yours would be groovy. I'm always intrigued by what other folks come up with. Don't know how useful my input will be - I'm still learning, and I occasionally have very crazy ideas - but I'm happy to offer opinions. I have lots of those. ^_^

Yes, please. (Man, I've gotten seriously sidetracked...)

I'm actually in the studio tonight (finally!), though I may have some time before the holiday at some point. Are you folks headed south again, or are you bound to Cambridge for T-Day?

We'll be in town, but some friends will be staying with us and we've got lots of plans. or lots planned. or something. after t-day though i have no plans as of yet.

I must ask my sister for her "Heidi's O-Ring Ale" recipe that was quite the hit when she did an internship at a brewpup at university...
komos From: komos Date: November 18th, 2004 08:05 am (UTC) (Link)
That sounds dirty.

Still, it'd be cool to see if we couldn't reproduce it. I'm guessing that it's probably an all-grain recipe, which means that we'd have to do some tinkering with ingredients as well as scaling it for stovetop.

Check and see.

Oh... I need to talk about my ephemera find soon.
