Ghost In The Shell: Innocence at 5:30, 9:30
(2004) dir Mamoru Oshii [99 min]
Almost ten years later, director Oshii returns to the world he helped to create with the first GHOST IN THE SHELL. Three years after the events in the first film, INNOCENCE reunites us with the operatives of Section 9, particularly the stone-faced Batou, a future detective with a troubled past and a slobbery pet basset hound. Batou is investigating the death of a ‘gynoid,’ an android created as a living sex-doll, and, inevitably, the case unearths some unpleasant secrets. A future-noir very much in the vein of Ridley Scott’s classic Blade Runner, INNOCENCE is an eye-popping, complex, and cinematic anime not to be missed on the big screen.
Incidentally, GITS is playing at 7:30 if you totally want to geek out.
