1) We have a minority government, which means they all have to get together and work things out instead of just passing bills out of hand.

2) Cultural content laws give our up-and-coming artists lots of opportunity and play time. :D Many fine "independant" acts on the radios, for instance.

3) In almost every major city, the healthy, vibrant part of the city is downtown and filled with non-chain, idiosyncratic businesses of all colours.

4) "cultural diversity" doesn't just mean a white town with a black neighbourhood and a chinese restaurant [1].

5) The weather is damn gorgeous, even if it's a little extreme in the depths of seasons.

[1] An American friend once came up from Detroit and asked us where, if Canada was so damn ethnically diverse, all the black people were. We looked around us for about 2.3 seconds and pointed out that nobody for three blocks around us was white - it's a tapesry of indians, koreans, chinese, sri lankans and sudanese (in this neighbourhood, anyway). Ethnic diversity != half african-american, half english-white.

1) Legislation that's worked out of compromise rather than out of hand bullying? Man, that's sweet.
2) It's got to be a nice change from the US markets, where it seems like everything is supposed to sound, look, and taste the same...
3) Is the relationship to cars different, by chance? Or is it simply that Canada didn't go through the same social reengineering that the US did from the 1950's forward?
4) Is "diversity training" common?
5) The weather doesn't sound that dissimilar to Maine's, actually.
