The weird thing that happened yesterday was that I noticed while I was riding in the elevator that I had several tiny glass shards embedded in my left arm. My first thought was that they came from inside of me, that something had shattered and my body was in the process of purging the toxic remnants. As fascinating an idea as this was, I realized that it probably has something to do with the fact that this building is undergoing a vanilla treatment on the first few floors as it's being prepped for conversion to, get this, luxury condos. Now I'm thinking that my allergic reaction may have something to do with that work, and with whatever is being stirred up as a result.

I had a conversation with the attorney who serves as our privacy officer about the attorney who got all yelly and she said, in so many words, "I honestly have no idea how you deal with the things you do."

I could only think to say, "It's only at great personal peril."

Later, I volunteered to assist with the rewrite of the Department's procedure governing verification of the authority of a requesting party to receive confidential information. Part of the process is sure to be hopelessly bureaucratic, but I'm kind of looking forward to it. Policy development is far closer to the job for which I interviewed than the endless documents processing I've been doing. Maybe I'll get a resume stuffer out of this yet.
