Jam sandwiches

I grow more convinced that the late "pressed sandwich" phenomenon is about minimizing required materials. I have had one too many sandwiches in which a single slice of Roma tomato rested atop a similarly anemic accompaniment in each half. While I do appreciate the value of a well-turned sourdough or a thoughtful focaccia, there really should be some substance to be had between the bread, whether it's roast beef or grilled cheese.
