I've certainly never made that complaint. ^_^

Still, I will concede that talk about regional cuisine can lead to a fair amount of head-scrathing. Hushpuppies are a kind of fried cornmeal dumpling that are fried to a rich golden brown. Basically, they're about as close as you can come to the concept of "batter-fried batter" without crossing the line into ridiculousness.

They're often served with a barbecue "sauce" that consists of nothing more than cider vinegar blended with cayenne and black pepper. It's deceptively simple, and the flavor it brings forward is amazing.

Well, considering the only hushpuppies I have ever enountered are shoes for the feet...

I don't let rip with the rhyming slang too often - it leads to all sorts of confusion:

"do a harold holt" = bolt or run away
(Only makes sense if you know Australia had a prime minister who vanished while swimming one morning. There is actually a Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Pool - which says it all about our views on politicians.)

"hit the frog and toad" = road

It is all very simple when you know the story or the rhyming sequence, but I have a mate who is so dry and laid back that:

"I am gonna do a harold holt and hit the frog and toad" becomes "I am gonna do a harold and hit the frogger."

Which just makes me ask for a translation of my own language.

You know that "do a harold and hit the frogger" has to become part of my personal lexicon now, right? It's the law (...or something.)

Or hit the frogger and do a harold.

I know I am, come 6pm this evening :)

You've played Frogger, right?

Nope. Still appropriate as Harry the frog is going to end up as crook as rookwood (cemetary).
