For a moment, consider the implications of El Presidente's statement
From The Guardian Unlimited:

While Bush had promised not to lecture Putin publicly on human and political rights, the two presidents exchanged pointed comments on the state of democracy in Russia.

"I talked about my desire to promote institutional change in parts of the world like Iraq where there's a free press and free religion, and I told him that a lot of people in our country would hope that Russia would do the same thing," Bush said.

Putin replied: "We certainly would not want to have the same kind of democracy as they have in Iraq, I can tell you quite honestly.''

"Just wait," Bush said after Putin's remarks were translated into English.

Clearly, international relations are not his strong point.

OMFG. Mad King George, I think, has finally gone COMPLETELY off his nut. Just when I think his comments can't get more retarded, he opens his mouth.

Naw, he was just ribbin' him. It was all in good fun. There was certainly no veiled threat of military intervention to install a pro-American democracy.

the bbc was running streaming video of remarks he made to blair when he thought they were off-air. talking about israel and lebanon, he said something along the lines of, "syria should force them [lebanese] to stop doing this shit." it's still linkable on their main page if you wanna hear it...

I heard about that, too. It struck me as impolitic, but I can imagine that far worse things have been said in hallowed halls. Cheney's "fuck-off" utterance on the Senate floor, for example...
