Cambridge, my Cambridge - A little less than a happy high

Cambridge, my Cambridge
I've been staying in the People's Republic (town not bar) taking care of Tinkles and Scooter since the weekend hit. Last night was my last night for this go, and I'm pretty ok with that. The cat, Gustave, decided that it would be an excellent night to find innovative ways to wake me up every hour until I decided that sleeping just wasn't worth it. He's a sweet cat, but he'll go on these wee-hour meowling benders that are unpleasant if not outright irritating. I was grumpy yesterday. Today I anticipate being inconsolable.

On the other hand, I found something very cool in a trash heap while walking Tinkles. There were actually two of them, but the second got scooped by a bottle picker before I was able to get back around the block with Scooter and a newly free hand. This one looked as though it had been sitting in a cellar for a couple of years, but hell, a Bianchi just being tossed out? It boggles, truly. [pic links]

New Bianchi?

Cool!

What's a Bianchi?

It's a sign from the gods to get off your fat arse and do something.

Great. Now you have two bikes you won't use.

Whatever, dude. I found a Moto Guzzi in the trash just last week.

What's wrong with it?

You are Jack's wasted life.

I imagine that it'd be hard to fall to your death on a flat road, but I am willing to chortle at imminent road rash.

It's a shame that I wasn't able to grab the Schwinn, too. Mountain bike, on the smallish side, probably in need of nothing more than tubes and a tune.

It looks like I pulled an $850 hybrid with some minor maintenance issues out of the trash. Based solely on the once-over, it seems like the action is smooth and the wheels are true, so we're probably talking about at most two tubes and rear brakes. I'll probably spring for a tune while I'm at it.

I mean I like my bike and all, but free is always better!

Did I mention the front & rear pannier racks? This thing was set up for touring at some point.

If you happen to "find" another bike, remember the Ting.

I was 30 seconds from scoring the Schwinn, my friend.

Shoot, Bianchi? Even as a middle of the road model, it's a sweet ride. I think if it had been a Veloce instead of a Volpe, I might have squealed like a little girl.
