A little less than a happy high
A gentleman in our office, a former navy SEAL and firefighter who actually went to ground zero to assist with the early search efforts, has been marking this morning with a ship's bell.

I start to move into my routine and am brought back into this different reality when I hear the bell ringing.... Ding-ding, ding-ding, ding-ding. The last peal reverberates through the floor and I find myself looking at the clock, remembering what happened at that precise moment a year ago. I'm marveling over just how much my perception is changing as this happens.

It's not a normal day.

Current Mood: sad sad
Current Music: Incubus, "Warning"

There's a sense of silence in the air today. It's almost un-nerving.

I honestly didn't think today would be as tough as it is.

'Course, even as I write that, it seems terribly inadequate.

I'm normally the least patriotic of people who actually tries to support our government and way of life, and today, I'm wearing a red white and blue ribbon that I picked up at Starbucks on the way to the office here in New Jersey.

I stood there, thinking how odd it was, that it was the anniversary of a great tragedy, and I was buying an overpriced yuppie breakfast. That some of the very reasons why we were attacked, is the indulgances we Americans are free to enjoy, even on a daily basis should we so choose.

And since I'm in the tri-state area, I had K-Rock on, and the Howard Stern Show was replaying the broadcast from last year.

Our government has yet to act in retaliation and punishment.

It makes me very, very sad.

I'm not sure I know what you mean?

I started to reply, but ended up posting in my own journal.
