The coolest thing ever
If I can manage it, this is what I think I'll get myself for Christmas this year.

If you can't manage it on your own, let me know and I will help you to be able to manage it (consider it a Christmas present from me). This is absolutely something you should have.

I think the biggest problem is going to be getting one of the shares considering that they've had more interest than slots for the past 7 years running. Joe actually brought it up, so I think that the idea is that we'd invest in it as a household thing, partly with the intent to get us off our arses and so we can make good use of it.

I'm going to look into it further tonight and see if I can't get in somehow.

i have friends in seattle who do this buy-in stuff. they seem to like it a lot. the only thing i've heard is that (of course) it's whatever is in season. so you could end up with too much cabbage. overall it sounds like a great thing, definately better than grocery stores, who knows where those fruits come from.
happy christmas!

Did you hear that as of, I believe, 2004, all groceries will be required to have a label stating where the food came from? It's part of this year's Farm Bill...

'fraid not. I heard about it on Marketplace or All Things Considered on National Public Radio a day or two ago.

I'm a big fan of cooking according to season. (I've never really trusted the February tomato.) It may well turn out that I get too much cabbage, but then I'll consider making sauerkraut or kim chee for later use.

It may turn into my great domestication.

And don't any of you dare think of getting me a subscription to Living

The Cambridge pick-up is at 175 Richdale Ave. If I get a share and you're interested, I might well be able to help with transport for you guys. We'll talk Friday?

I like the gardening idea myself (a holdover from my childhood), but I've been way too unpredictable in my moods to trust that I would give it proper care. The big D sucks.
