The evening wasn’t entirely a wash, though. I did manage to trim and finish a coffee mug I threw last week (not terribly ambitious, I know... it was a request), and I threw what promises to be a beautiful sake jar (my first.) Kim has promised to teach me how to throw ‘from the mound’ next week so I can make a couple of small cups to go with it. The same technique is used for covers and such, so it appears that I will be further initiated into the mysteries of the wheel. It’s all about growth, I guess.
The high point of the evening was the discovery that the sangria pitcher made it through glazing intact and pretty much as I had intended. It was pretty exciting, and even having done the piece has taught me a lot. On the good side, I can still look at my finished pieces critically without judging myself over it.
Despite its flaws, I have to say that I’m pretty pleased with the outcome.
